Senior Bookkeeper

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Full Cycle Bookkeeping responsibilities

· Data entry, journal entries and posting of transactions

· Reconciliations (Bank and Credit cards), general ledger and trial balance input and verification

· Prepare Trial balances for staff accountant to review

· Client filings GST, HST, WSIB, T4, T5, Payroll, ROEs, EHT

· Subject Matter Expert on Quick books (Desktop and Online versions)

· Other projects as assigned

 

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

· 3 - 5 years plus of bookkeeping experience is a must

· 2 – 5 years of Quickbooks desktop and Quickbooks Online experience (Sage experience is an asset)

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent

· Proven organization, prioritization and attention to detail skills

  • Excellent people-skills is a must with ability to actively engage with existing clients

· Exceptional English written and oral communication skills.

· Proficient with computer applications in general e.g. MS 365 Office (MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint)

  • Aptitude to learn new systems quickly

  • Fast learner, flexible, able to adapt, and always eager to learn.

· Applicants must have reliable transportation (this is not a virtual position)

Staff Accountant
Full time Position
 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Senior Staff Accountant works on assignments under the direct supervision of the Corporate Supervisor/Partners for compilations and engagements for a broad range of industries, as well as preparation of personal tax returns.

 

The Senior Staff Accountant’s role encompasses:

  • Working on compilations, all types of audit & assurance engagements

  • Understanding technical standards with the expected level of assistance and supervision

  • Ability to recognize relevant accounting and audit issues from basic analysis

  • Building effective and long-lasting working relationships on assignments with operational client contacts

  • Providing valuable suggestions and contributions related to various assignments

  • Responding effectively and efficiently to client, manager, and partner requests

  • Maintaining technical knowledge – ASPE, CAS - by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; and establishing personal networks

  • Contributing to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

  • In house assignments such as accounting research or office administration

 

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of a University Accounting degree

  • Working towards obtaining their Canadian CPA designation

  • Basic understanding and experience with ASPE, CAS

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate well with clients, coworkers, managers, and partners

  • Strong commitment to quality

  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

  • Experience and/or some exposure to accounting and tax software such as Quickbooks, Caseware, Jazz-it, CCH iFirm, Tax Prep
